KIDS KITESURFING SCHOOL TARIFA
We structure our kids kitesurfing lessons in Tarifa differently to adult lessons. Kids learn faster, have shorter attention spans and, most importantly, they need more personal attention to ensure their safety. We combine all of this in our Kids Kitesurfing School Tarifa.
The Graykite Tarifa team has been teaching the young and young at heart to kitesurf for over 15 years. This wealth of experience has informed our unique approach to kitesurfing lessons for kids between the ages of 6 and 12.
What’s different abut teaching kids kitesurfing?
Children are impressionable, adaptable and tend to progress quickly. This is largely due to their sense of adventure, highly adaptable motor skills and lust for fun.
Most children decide after their first lesson whether kite surfing is for them. This is why our kids kitesurfing lessons are designed to let them experience what it’s all about.
Kid’s lessons are shorter than the adult lessons, usually 2 hours. This means the children remain captivated throughout the lesson. We don’t want to burn them out mentally or physically. Safety is our top priority when planning kids kitesurfing lessons.
Why book Kids Kitesurfing School Tarifa?
Tarifa is a fantastic place to learn to kitesurf. Our unique location on the Strait of Gibraltar means it’s almost always windy in Tarifa. The presence of the Sea Angels rescue boats on the main kite beach at Los Lances mean that every wind direction is kiteable there.
There are also many other great kite spots in and near Tarifa where beginners can learn.
The tidal lagoons at Los Lances and Valdevaqueros are ideal spots to practice your first board starts without having to worry about being dragged around by waves or getting a mouthful of salt water. The more sheltered beaches at Bolonia, Palmones and Los Canos de Meca mean that when the wind is too strong to learn in Tarifa there are plenty of options only a short drive away.
The consistent wind and variety of spots on offer are the reason that Tarifa is the kitesurfing capital of Europe. And remember, if you learn to kitesurf here you can kitesurf confidently anywhere.
So Tarifa is probably the best place in the world to learn to be an independent kite surfer.
How old do children need to be to learn kitesurfing?
Kids should usually be at least 6 years old when they take their first lesson and we put in place many extra safety measures when teaching youngsters. We use a retractable leash throughout their kite and board training which ensures your children are always physically attached to an experienced instructor.
As our young students progress they will be offered more independence, but only when both instructor and youngster are both fully confident they are safe. Graykite’s teaching methodology focuses on positive affirmation in a safe and secure learning environment. This allows youngsters to excel and share our passion for kitesurfing.
Group size
To maximise safety and progress kids & children always learn kitesurfing in a private or semi private lessons in Tarifa. This ensures they get the direct supervision they need. The only other thing they really need is the desire to learn and passion to have fun. Well, that and expert tuition!
High adrenaline fun in a super-safe environment makes learning to kitesurf the experience of a lifetime for many children. Hopefully that’s what they’ll tell you and all their friends back at school!
Do we need to do any preparation?
Kitesurfing combines two dimensions: kite and board. Many children already have some experience that works to their advantage. This can include sports like skateboarding, snowboarding or small kite flying. Also, any activities that help build balance and co-ordination will help them to master the kite and board – for instance, ballet, football or gymnastics. But there’s nothing specific you or they need to do to prepare.
